Caligula: The Ultimate Cut receives an expansive Collector’s Edition Steelbook 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray release from Umbrella Entertainment, bringing together five different cuts of the controversial historical epic along with hours of archival and newly produced bonus material.

Starring Malcolm McDowell, Helen Mirren, Peter O’Toole, Teresa Ann Savoy, and John Gielgud, Caligula depicts the rise and increasingly destructive reign of Roman emperor Gaius Caligula. Originally released in 1980 following a famously troubled production, the film became one of cinema’s most controversial productions due to its combination of historical drama, graphic violence, sexuality, and behind-the-scenes creative conflicts.

At the center of this four-disc Collector’s Edition is Caligula: The Ultimate Cut, a reconstruction assembled by producer Thomas Negovan using the original camera negative and previously unused footage. The 173-minute Ultimate Cut is presented in 2160p 4K HDR on a UHD100 disc.

Collectors also receive three Blu-ray discs containing multiple alternate versions of the film, including the Unrated Uncensored Cut, Io, Caligola: The Italian Cut, Australian Rated Cut, and Pre-release Cut. The collection is packaged in an exclusive Steelbook with custom artwork by Will de Villiers, housed inside a matching rigid slipcase, and includes an extensive 240-page book featuring essays, interviews, and artwork.
