Raised on stories of Vinland, a distant land free from war and slavery, young Thorfinn dreams of one day leaving his Icelandic home and seeing it for himself. Those dreams are shattered when the legendary Jomsvikings arrive and Thorfinn witnesses the death of his father, Thors, at the hands of the cunning Viking mercenary leader Askeladd.

Driven by revenge, Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band of mercenaries and dedicates himself to becoming a skilled enough warrior to defeat his father's killer in an honorable duel. His journey takes him into the brutal conflict between Denmark and England, where survival, politics, loyalty, and ambition begin to reshape his understanding of both his father and the warrior he wants to become.
